On December 4th, join us in Auburn for a day of all things FLUTE. We’ll welcome flutists from near & far for clinics, masterclasses, exhibits, and more. This event is open to flute players and enthusiasts of all ages and ability levels. Clinics will cover the Georgia & Alabama high school All-State etudes. 

Exhibitors

We are welcoming Miyazawa Flutes, Burkart Flutes & Piccolos, Flute World, and Gadsend Music Co. to Flute Day! 

Tentative Schedule – Subject to Change

11:30-12:00 – registration & lunch on your own

12:00-12:45 – Welcome!!  Technique & Warm-up Class – Dr. Virginia Broffitt Kunzer

12:45-1:30 - Stretching & Relaxation for Flutists – Dr. Nicole Agostino

1:30-2:30 – Performance Masterclass with Dr. Virginia Broffitt Kunzer

2:30-3:00 – break & visit the exhibits

3:00-3:45

  • Option 1 - Georgia HS Symphonic Band All-State Class – Dr. Virginia Broffitt Kunzer
  • Option 2 - Effective Practice Strategies – Elizabeth Haynes
  • Option 3 - Georgia 9-10 All-State Class – Natalie Smith 

3:45-4:30

  • Option 1 - Alabama HS All-State Class – Dr. Virginia Broffitt Kunzer
  • Option 2 - Alabama MS All-State Class – Elizabeth Haynes
  • Option 3 - Sight Reading is More Fun with Friends! - Nancy Vinson

4:30-5:15 – Audition Preparation/Performance Anxiety Discussion

5:15-5:30 – break & visit the exhibits

5:30-6:00 – Closing Concert (Performers: Auburn Flute Sextet, Elicio Winds, Dr. Virginia Broffitt Kunzer) - OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

6:00 – Drive home safely!

Masterclass Competition (optional)

The deadline for the masterclass competition has passed. 

Flute Day T-Shirts

The deadline for ordering flute day t-shirts has passed. At this point, we may be able to add on to our order or we may have a few extras. If you are interested in a t-shirt, please email VBK@auburn.edu and we will do our best to honor your request. The t-shirts are $15 each.

COVID-19 Protocol

The university has recently updated its masking requirements: masks are currently required in campus buildings for individuals who are unvaccinated. We will adhere to these guidelines. No playing masks will be required. We will communicate any changes due to COVID-19 to registered participants and by posting on this website.

Parking

The Goodwin Music Building is located at 320 W. Samford Ave, Auburn, AL. Please be sure to read the signage carefully. We will not be responsible for tickets incurred that day. A campus parking map may be found here: https://auburn.edu/administration/parking/assets/pdf/CampusParkingMap.pdf
